MMRDA is the owner of Mumbai Metro. Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is a statutory body under Ministry of Urban Development, Government of Maharashtra. MMRDA is found on 1975 as per the Mumbai Metropolitan Development Act of 1974. Currently, MMRDA is running many mega projects in various corporations of Mumbai Metropolitan Area.

Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation [MMRC]:
Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation [MMRC] are the owner of line 3 of Mumbai Metro. Government of Maharashtra formed Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRC) to speed up operation of Mumbai Metro. The line number 3 (Aarey Colony – Cuffe Parade route) with 33.5 km will be the most expensive line of the metro. The authorities are calculated that the expense to construct this line is 25 billion rupees.
About Mumbai Metro:
Mumbai Metro is builted as a travel solution for overcrowded Mumbai suburban and Roads. Mumbai Metro begins constructions on 2010 and planned to complete the whole metro system by 2026. Constructions are planned to done through three phases, still the process is going on. By 2026, when construction is done, Mumbai Metro have fourteen metro lines with one metrolite line. The length of the complete project are 356.9 Kilometers, which longest in India after Delhi Metro. The 26% of the total length are under grounded lines and rest are elevated lines. The Mumbai Metro rail consists of 286 stations and some of these stations are under grounded.
At 2006, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh laid foundation for Mumbai Metro Rail Project. It took two years to began construction after laid foundation. After five years at 2013, MMRDA conducted trail run of the first line and began it’s open for public at 8th June of 2014. The first opened metro rail is known as Blue Line have a length of 11.4 kilometers consisting of 12 stations.
Since, Mumbai is a metropolitan city, there have many obstacles like unable to acquire land are facing for the realization of complete project. The constructions of Mumbai Metro is slow and it took eight years more for opening next metro lines or corridors. Line 2A and 7 began it’s commercial run at 2nd April 2022. The first line of the Mumbai Metro is situating at Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar corridor.
Mumbai Metro, is the first metro in India on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The private partner of MMRDA and MMMOCL are Reliance Infrastructure. The blue line are still operating by Reliance and this line is now known as Mumbai Metro One. Now, 33.5 km of metro line are operational for public and the minimum fare are 10 Rupees.
