Thane Metro Project:
Thane is a metropolitan city with more than 20 lakhs of population. Thane is situating very near to Mumbai, and Thane is the part of Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Earlier Metrolite is approved on Thane metropolitan area instead of a regular metro. But, on September 2021, Thane Municipal Corporation scraped metrolite plans and approved a regular metro for Thane metropolitan area. Thane Mucipal Corporation submitted Metro plans to Maharashtra Government and still awaiting approval.
Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) is committed to construct Thane Metro in association with Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha Metro). As you know, Maha Metro is a body organized for implementation of all metro projects in Maharashtra. The proposed Thane Metro have a single line spanning 29 kilometers with 22 stations. As per plans, Thane Metro will connect with line four and five of Mumbai Metro for a hassle free commuting through Mumbai Metropolitan region. TMC and Maha Metro aims to generate 65% of electricity needed for working of metro by fixing solar panels on roofs of Thane metro stations.
